Silicon carbide (SiC) impellers, sleeves, and wear plates are core components in wear-resistant equipment such as slurry pumps and chemical pumps. Their superior performance stems directly from the unique properties of silicon carbide ceramic materials. The following is a detailed analysis of its material hardness and overall performance:
Core Characteristic: Extreme Hardness
Silicon carbide is one of the hardest materials in nature, and its hardness is the fundamental guarantee of its wear resistance.
· Mohs Hardness: Approximately 9.2-9.5 (second only to diamond’s 10).
· Knoop Hardness/Vickers Hardness: Typically in the range of 2000-2800 kg/mm².
· Comparison: Hardness far exceeds that of commonly used wear-resistant metal materials.
· High-chromium cast iron: Approximately 600-800 HV.
· Alumina ceramic: Approximately 1500-1700 HV.
· Tungsten-cobalt cemented carbide: Approximately 1400-1800 HV.
This means that silicon carbide slurry pumps can effectively resist the cutting and chiseling wear of most abrasive particles (such as quartz sand and slag).
